Linear (1D) symbologies encode data in the widths of parallel bars and spaces. They are read left-to-right by laser scanners, CCD readers, and phone cameras, and they need a clear quiet zone on both sides so the reader can locate the start and stop patterns. Linear codes hold little data — usually a short reference number — which is exactly why they remain the standard for product and asset identification.
Codablock F codes are used for inventory and asset labels, shipping references, library cards, and equipment tags. Because the data is fixed inside the symbol at generation time, a printed Codablock F barcode keeps working indefinitely — there is no service behind it, no expiry date, and no per-scan fee.
