3 Border Styles
Solid (a single clean stroke frame), Double (two parallel lines for the classic double-frame look), and Rounded (soft rounded corners using ctx.roundRect with a manual fallback for older browsers).
Full Color Control
Pick any border color and any background color with a native color picker plus hex input. The background fills the gap between the image and the border when you use Inner Padding.
Live Preview
Drag the border-width slider from 0 to 100px and the inner-padding slider from 0 to 50px. The preview updates live with a 150ms debounce — no clicking "Apply" required.
100% Private
Your image never leaves your device. All border drawing happens in your browser using the Canvas API. No upload, no signup, no watermark.
3 Output Formats
Download as PNG (lossless), JPG (small), or WebP (modern). No watermark, free forever.
Any Device
Works on Mac, Windows, iPhone, and Android. Output canvas is capped to 4096px max side to stay fast and crash-free on phones.
Is the image border tool free?
Yes. 100% free, no signup, no watermark, no daily limit. Add borders to as many images as you want.
What border styles are available?
Three: Solid (a single ctx.strokeRect on the outer edge of the canvas — a clean uniform-width frame), Double (two parallel strokeRects — the outer centered at borderWidth/4 and the inner at 3*borderWidth/4, each with lineWidth = borderWidth/3, leaving a clean gap in the middle), and Rounded (a rounded-rect stroke using ctx.roundRect, with a manual quadraticCurveTo fallback for older browsers). The corner radius is min(outW, outH)/8.
What is Inner Padding?
Inner Padding is the gap between the image itself and the border. The padding area is filled with your chosen Background Color. Set it to 0 for a flush border that touches the image, or up to 50px for a wide matted frame look.
How is the canvas sized?
The output canvas = original image dimensions + 2*(borderWidth + innerPadding) on each side. So an image that is 1000×600 with a 20px border and 10px padding becomes 1060×660. The whole canvas is first filled with the background color, then the image is drawn inset by (borderWidth + innerPadding), then the border is stroked on the outer edge.
Does my image leave my device?
No. All processing happens in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your image is never uploaded to any server.
Why is the output capped at 4096px?
To keep the tool fast and crash-free on phones and tablets. Images whose total output (image + borders) exceeds 4096px on the longest side are scaled down proportionally before drawing — the border ratio is fully preserved. Canvas processing is wrapped in try/catch so any error is silently ignored.
