What barcode formats does the lookup support?
UPC-A (12 digits), UPC-E, EAN-13 (13 digits), EAN-8, and ISBN-13 (978/979 prefix). Any numeric GTIN-8 / GTIN-12 / GTIN-13 barcode will work — dashes and spaces are stripped automatically before the query.
Where does the product data come from?
OpenFoodFacts — a free, open, collaborative database of food products from around the world. The lookup hits their public REST API at world.openfoodfacts.org directly from your browser.
Why does my barcode return "no product found"?
OpenFoodFacts focuses on food, grocery, and supplement products. Non-food items (electronics, books without ISBN food entries, industrial parts) are usually not in the database. For books, try an ISBN-13 lookup; for general items, search the UPC on Amazon or Google Shopping.
Is my barcode data private?
Yes. The lookup request goes directly from your browser to world.openfoodfacts.org. We do not proxy, log, or store the barcodes you search. Recent lookups are stored only in your browser's local React state (cleared on page reload).
Can I look up multiple barcodes at once?
