How does the PDF metadata editor work?
The tool loads your PDF inside your browser using pdf-lib. It reads the current metadata (title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, creation date) and shows it in editable fields. You change the fields you want, click Update Metadata, and pdf-lib writes the new info back into the PDF. Nothing is sent to a server.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

What metadata fields can I edit?
You can edit the title, author, subject, keywords (comma-separated), creator, producer, and creation date. The tool also shows read-only info: page count, file size, PDF version, and whether the PDF is encrypted.
What is the difference between Creator and Producer?
Creator is the original app that made the PDF (like "Microsoft Word" or "Adobe InDesign"). Producer is the library or engine that wrote the PDF file (like "pdf-lib" or "Adobe PDF Library"). Both are text fields that you can change to anything you like.
How do I format the keywords?
Type keywords as a comma-separated list, like "invoice, 2025, q1, finance". The tool splits on commas and saves each item as one keyword. Extra spaces around each item are trimmed automatically.
Can I clear metadata to make a PDF more private?
Yes. Delete the text in any field you want to clear, then click Update Metadata. Empty fields are saved as empty strings. To also strip Producer and Creator, our PDF Compressor tool has an Extreme mode that removes these automatically.
Can I edit metadata on a password-protected PDF?
No. The tool cannot open or write to password-protected PDFs. Remove the password in your PDF reader first, save a copy without a password, and then edit the metadata on that copy here.
