What is the difference between Extreme, Recommended, and Less?
Extreme re-saves the PDF with compressed object streams and also strips extra metadata (Producer, Creator, Trapped) for the smallest file. Recommended re-saves with compressed object streams but keeps the metadata. Less re-saves without object streams — the smallest savings but the safest if a PDF has unusual objects.
How much can the PDF size be reduced?
It depends on how the original PDF was made. PDFs exported from Word, PowerPoint, or a scanner often shrink a lot. PDFs already saved with compressed object streams may only shrink a little. You will see the original and the compressed size before you download.
Does compression reduce PDF quality?
No. This tool does not recompress images or rewrite text. It only re-saves the PDF structure using compressed object streams. The visible content — text, fonts, and images — stays exactly the same as the original.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
No. The tool cannot open or read password-protected PDFs. Remove the password in your PDF reader first, save a copy without a password, and then compress that copy here.
