The tool uses pdf-lib to apply the standard PDF security handler. Browser-based pdf-lib has limited encryption support compared to desktop tools. For documents that need strong 256-bit AES encryption, use a desktop tool like Adobe Acrobat, qpdf, or PDFtk.
What if I forget the password?
There is no way to recover a forgotten PDF password. The tool does not store your password anywhere. Keep your password in a safe place (a password manager is best). If you forget it, you can try our PDF Unlock tool — but it only works for PDFs where the password is needed to edit, not to open.
