How does the PDF crop tool work?
The tool loads your PDF inside your browser using pdf-lib. You set margins for top, bottom, left, and right (in points or percent). The tool then sets the crop box on each page you pick. The crop box tells the PDF viewer which part of the page to show. The crop is saved permanently inside the PDF. Nothing is sent to a server.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Your PDF never leaves your device. All cropping happens inside your browser using pdf-lib. There is no upload, no server copy, no tracking. 100% private.
What is the difference between points and percent?
Points (pt) are absolute units — 1 point is about 1/72 of an inch. Use points when you want a precise cut (e.g. trim 50 points from each side). Percent (%) is relative to the page size — 10% off the top of an 800-point-tall page trims 80 points. Use percent when you want the same fraction on every page even if pages have different sizes.
Can I crop only some pages?
Yes. Pick "Specific pages" and type a list like "1, 3, 5-7". Page numbers start at 1. Commas list single pages and dashes give a range. Every page you list gets the crop applied. The rest keep their original size.
Is the crop permanent?
Yes. The crop is saved inside the PDF file itself using pdf-lib. When you download the new PDF and open it in any PDF viewer, the pages will be cropped. The change is permanent — you do not need to re-crop every time you open the file.
Does cropping delete the cropped-out content?
No. Cropping only changes the crop box — the visible area of each page. The original content is still inside the PDF, just hidden from view. To remove the hidden content fully (and reduce file size), use the PDF Compressor tool after cropping. Some advanced viewers may show the hidden area if the user disables the crop box.
What if I crop too much and cut off important content?
Just upload the original PDF again and use smaller margins. The tool always works on the original file you upload, so you can start over any time. It never modifies the file you pick — it builds a new cropped copy and lets you download that.
